1. Preparing for Speaker Installation:Before embarking on your speaker upgrade project, you’ll need to access the speaker location. Start by removing the interior panel. This involves taking out five Phillips head screws – two located at the ends of the grab handle under the plastic caps, one behind the door open latch, and two towards the front of the panel. Gently open the door latch and remove the plastic bezel. For the window crank, slightly pull it away from the door and remove the retaining clip using a seal pick or small needle-nose pliers.

2. Removing the Door Panel:Once the screws and bezel are removed, carefully work around the exterior of the panel, gently popping the plastic rivets. Then, remove the panel by pushing it upward and forward from the rear, bottom corner. This step requires a bit of finesse to avoid damaging the panel.

3. Swapping Out the Speaker:With the panel off, proceed to remove the old speaker. Unscrew the four Phillips head screws holding the speaker and its cup. After removing the old speaker, the next step involves modifying the speaker cup to fit the new speaker. Use a razor knife to cut out the back of the speaker cup, providing clearance for the new speaker’s larger magnet.

4. Adjusting the New Speaker Fit:If your new speakers have a larger frame, you may need to shave their lip at the four corners. This adjustment ensures the new speaker sits flush in the cup. Carefully perform this step to avoid damaging the new speaker.
